Patrick J. Karol,

Do you want to set yourself apart from the competition for your next job or promotion?

Do you want to open doors to new conversations with organizational leaders?

Do you want to boost your personal and professional confidence?

If you are in the safety and health profession, the path is clear. Get certified!

There are several options, but the most widely recognized certifications are through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), especially the Associate Safety Professional (ASP) and Certified Safety Professional (CSP). The CSP is generally recognized as the gold standard of all safety certifications and is often listed as a qualification on safety job openings and job descriptions.

What does being certified say about you to recruiters? It says that you value personal and professional development. It says that you have a desire to learn and grow. It says that you have the humility to admit that you have room to grow and learn. These are all qualities that companies look for in a leader.

Being certified establishes your credibility as a safety and health professional within your company, the industry, and the profession. The credibility that comes with being certified opens doors to conversations with organization leaders. Conversations that may not have happened previously.

Hold yourself to a higher standard. Get certified! It doesn’t guarantee success, but it opens doors to conversations and possibly your next job or promotion opportunity.

Make certification a goal in your personal and professional development plan for 2022.
